Palin: 'I do have the fire in my belly' - The Hill's Blog Briefing Room

Palin: 'I do have the fire in my belly' - The Hill's Blog Briefing Room

While one of America's most recognized politicians, her unfavorable ratings keep climbing, indicating some level of disfavor with many. There is absolutely no doubt she will be a factor in the next Presidential election. I doubt she will run...this time. She has worked more on her media career than she has on her governmental chops and is ill-equipped to take on GOP vets like Gingrich, Romney, Paul or Pawlenty. (I hopes she runs just to add some juice to the GOP debates.)

Her importance in the next campaign comes from her ability to play the role of Kingmaker. Whoever she endorses will certainly pick up a certain number of additional votes. Palin knows this, and will milk her endorsement for as much as she possibly can. What might her "return" be? A place on the ticket? A Cabinet position? An ambassadorship? Some other high profile appointment?

Palin as VP candidate?

No. I doubt she would be interested in it and she's already done that.

A Cabinet position?

Possibly. Two departments where someone so inclined could try and make the case that she's qualified. The most likely cabinet post she would be offered would be as Secretary of the Interior. A fairly low profile assignment, Palin would probably consider it but refuse it for just that reason. Better for her to continue in her role as a commentator on Fox News. The long shot cabinet position she might be considered for would be as Sec. of Energy. Hard to build a case for her in this role, I think she would also reject this role.

Ambassador Palin?

No. Virtually zero foreign policy experience and it would mean leaving Alaska and the attention of the American people. No chance.

What else?

I think she plays her hand for everything she can, but in the end, stays right where she's at on Fox. She continues to pick the fights she wants, doesn't really have to be held responsible for anything of real importance and continues to rake in the dough with her salary, public speaking fees and book sales. Fact is, she's got a great gig already. Unless she has a real fire in her belly to actually legislate or govern, but the last time she held office, she bailed. If the scrutiny of being the Governor of Alaska was too much, I can't ever see her in the White House.

  1. Palin has fire in her belly? I recommend Nexium....otherwise she needs some non-ideological/non-partisan ideas in her head.

  4. While the argument that she adds votes from the fringe right is true, she loses more votes from the swing moderates. The word 'Palin' is toxic for any potential GOP candidate.
