Bush Declines Obama's Ground Zero Invite

Bush Declines Obama's Ground Zero Invite

Is President Bush correct to decline the invitation? Was the invitation inappropriate from President Obama?

  1. Meh, I'm fine on both counts. Bush is completely within his rights to stay out of the spotlight and enjoy being done with his eight years in office.

The invitation itself was completely appropriate and an invitation to Bill Clinton would be similarly appropriate. Getting Bin Laden was a major focal point at various times for all three presidents, so I'd be fine with all three being there to honor the occasion.

  2. The invite was completely appropriate, I'm not so sure about Bush declining. He's the one who turned made Bin Laden the personification of terrorism and extremism for the last 10 years. I have to wonder how much of it was either moral cowardice or worrying about backlash affecting the overall event.

  3. At first I was ambivalent but now I think it is wrong of him to decline. It could be a show of bi-partisian ship....an implication that we can and must work together across administrations.
